Sokoto Records 11 COVID-19 Cases Two Days After Discharging Al Patients


Barely two days after discharging the remain0ing five patients in its isolation centre, Sokoto State has recorded 11 new cases of COVID-19.

The cases were among the 33 almajirai deported from Kaduna State recently.

A statement issued by the state task force on COVID-19 said it had received 33 repatriated almajiris on 4th June, 2020 from Zaria, Kaduna State.

“All the 33 almajirai were quarantined at the State NYSC orientation camp, Wamakko.

“On their arrival, their samples were collected and unfortunately, 11 were tested positive for COVID-19.

The statement noted that the almajirai had no known contact with their families.

It added that the state government would collaborate with Kaduna state government to ensure effective contact tracing at the almajirai school in Zaria where the almajirai came from.

The Sokoto State Task force Committee on COVID-19 had earlier discharged all 101 isolated coronavirus patients in the state.

The Committee’s Chairman, Dr Ali Inname, who disclosed this at a news conference in Sokoto said that as at Friday there was no patient at the isolation centre in the state.

The index case was recorded on April 19, 2020 in the state, with 731 samples collected, while 655 contacts completed the 14 days of follow up.

The chairman who is also the state’s Commissioner for Health, explained that the committee received 839 alerts from across the state and that all of them were investigated.
